Dining Plan Benefits and Disadvantages

Benefits:
Allows you to pay upfront for your dining.  Makes the vacation feel like an all-inclusive trip while you travel.  You don’t have to pay each time you want to eat.

You can use the table-service entitlements at character meals.  This can be a money saver for the trip.  Character meals if you pay out of pocket are expensive even by Disney standards.

Disadvantages:
People who don’t want to be forced into a certain number of meals in a vacation.

To make the most of the vacation you need to plan the popular table-service meals in advance or you may have un-used credits at the end of the vacation.

Free Dining Offers
Usually offered during the slower periods.  Need to look at the specific offer because usually it is a choice of free dining or a room discount.  Sometimes there are more savings taking the room discount.  A travel agent will gladly help you work through the options to help you see how you can save the most money.

Current Offer from Disney is the Stay, Play, and Dine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I add extra or remove dining entitlements to my plan?  No.  Each plan is set.  If you need more food you are always able to pay out of pocket for items not covered by the plan.

Can I add a person to my room and not purchase a dining plan for them?  NO.  Each person on the package must have the same dining plan.

My child is an adventurous eater.  Can they eat from the adult menu?  No, but you can pay to upgrade a child to an adult plan.

I am an adult who is not a big eater.  Can I buy the child plan?  An adult cannot buy the child plan, but an adult can order off the child’s menu.  It will take the adult credit though and you receive child portions.

Can you use a table-service credit at a quick-service location?  Yes.  However the reverse is not allowed.  You cannot use a quick-service credit at a table-service location.
