Disneyland trip planning for a Walt Disney World veteran. Dave Tupper joins me to help plan my upcoming Disneyland vacation. We discuss some difference between the 2 resorts and strategies for planning early morning entry at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure.
I have previously mentioned how much I adore TouringPlans.com and recommended looking at their site for the free touring plans. They apparently took the free plans down. If they do they do have them they are hard to find because I had no luck.
Now my recommendation is for WDW Prep School’s advice for touring strategies. Here are the links for each park.
From last week’s Magic Kingdom episode here is a bit of additional info. If you would like to eat at Be Our Guest in the Magic Kingdom for quick-service, you should order your food in advance. You do this in My Disney Experience. Here is the link if you want more information. https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/faq/dining-reservations/advance-order-dining/
Disneyland Trip Planning
Hotel Choices – Grand Californian Resort and Spa is the closest with an entrance into Disney California Adventure. Disneyland Hotel has a great pool. Paradise Pier is a little further away.
You can use Vons for grocery delivery to your hotel.
Walt Disney World veterans need to experience Jungle Cruise, Pirates of the Caribbean,Small World, and Haunted Mansion even though they are in Florida. There are significant differences to be appreciated. A popular restaurant is Blue Bayou because it overlooks Pirates of the Caribbean. Dave likes to go there for just desserts to save some money because it is a little pricey. For a full meal, he would prefer to eat at Napa Rose for the price. Dave shares that Sleeping Beauty castle is actually facing towards Fantasyland. When you walk into the park you actually are looking at the back of the castle. You have to ride Peter Pan first thing in the morning because there is no Fast Pass and the line gets really long.
Disney California Adventure
Spend your time in the morning doing things other than Carsland because that is where the sea of people head off to. California Screamin and Toy Story Midway Mania are good choices. Get a Fast Pass for Radiator Springs Racers and enjoy Carsland at the return time. For World of Color, because it is standing room only, Dave doesn’t recommend this for small children. Small children may have a hard time seeing. Use this as adults only night.
Update with Kim’s plans.
We chose to stay at the Courtyard Anaheim Theme Park Entrance. We picked here because we wanted the larger room size with bunk beds. It is right across the street from Disneyland and actually closer than some on-property hotel choices. The pool area is also very nice.
For transportation from LAX to our hotel, we are going to use Lansky transportation. It is a little more expensive than Disneyland Resort Express. However, private transportation will include a grocery stop and the convenience of having someone dedicated and scheduled just for us.
