In this episode, we have a trip report with tips on planning a Walt Disney World vacation at Christmas. My guest is Dana White from the popular blog and podcast A Slob Comes Clean.
Dana and her family traveled to Walt Disney World during Christmas week 2014.
She was able to stay at Port Orleans Riverside with a pin code with free dining. How amazing is that because this resort is typically not a part of the free dining promotion because of its popularity, but this was a pin code unique to her. They love to stay on Disney property for the conveniences its offers.
Dana started planning for this vacation about 4 months in advance.
For dining reservations since it was already under the 180-day mark, she had to be persistent to get the reservations she really wanted. In the Norway Pavilion of Epcot, Akershus Royal Banquet Hall was not available initially. After continual checking, she was able to get the reservation for the time she wanted. Don’t give up if you desired ADR (Advanced Dining Reservation) is not available. People cancel all the time. Keep checking.
The favorite meal of the vacation was at the Beach Club Resort at Cape May Cafe for dinner. It is a seafood buffet and they really enjoyed it.
They also ate a Mama Melrose with a Fantasmic! dinner package. They missed out on seeing the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights because her family was tired and didn’t have the energy to check it out.
The touring strategy for this vacation was to get to the parks right at opening. Because of extended hours during the holidays, they were at the parks really early, for example, the Magic Kingdom opened at 7am. They were able to walk on many attractions with no wait because most people like to sleep in on vacation. Her family would then leave the park in the afternoon. Spend time at the resort and have a nice dinner and go to bed early to get ready for the next day.
Another tip on using the dining plan is that they liked eating lunch at the resort. They would use the refillable mug for the drink, but meals come with a drink. They would grab a bottle of juice or milk or something that they could take back to their room. Then breakfast would be something quick and portable they could eat on the way to the parks the next morning for their early starts.
